INTRODUCING TLMI’S 2009-2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
KRISTIN LE BELT
Senior – Western Michigan University
Kristin is a returning scholarship recipient. She has maintained a 3.63 GPA which qualified her for the Dean’s List. Some of her classes this year consisted of digital imaging components, color management in the print industry, flexography and offset lithography and advanced multimedia. Kristin has applied for the Lees Honors College at Western Michigan and is waiting for acceptance.
Daniel Johnson
Senior – College of the Ozarks
Daniel is very active in several clubs on campus including the Art Club and Graphic Arts Club, for which he holds the position of Treasurer. He works 15 hours weekly at the College Press, where responsibilities include operating and maintaining printing presses, bindery work, stitching, cutting, packaging and inventory jobs. Future classes will include prepress, screen printing, image preparation and design.
Whitney Thompson
Senior – University of Northern Iowa
Whitney really keeps herself busy with school and working 25 hours a week at the UNI National Ag-Based Lubricants Center, where she is responsible for the design and content of promotional materials. She is also a member of the Industrial Technology Department Council, volunteers for many off campus programs, and designs digital scrapbook material. Her major interests are graphic design, flexography, screen printing and offset lithography.
Christa Ickowski
Junior – Western Michigan University
Christa is enrolled in the Imaging Program and maintains a 3.82 GPA. As a member of Western’s Honor College, her course of study is more stringent than for the other students. Her future course work includes color management and flexography. She is also involved in the production of the college’s annual newsletter, the Graphic Arts Society and TAGA. Christa interned at a paper company for the last two summers and has been asked to return due to her knowledge and work ethics.

MARGARET MACKURA
Junior – Ohio University
A visit with dad to a label printing plant inspired Margaret to become involved in the printing industry. Even though majoring in graphic design, she realizes the importance of knowing the printing side of the industry. She has been on the Dean’s List three times and is now maintaining a 3.44 GPA. Margaret continues working at two part time jobs when she can to help with her education.
KATIE FRICKER
Junior – Western Michigan University
Majoring in Imaging, Katie also is a RA, on the Executive Board for Drive Safe Kalamazoo, participates in the Graphic Arts Society, the Residence Hall Association and the Britton/Hadley Hall Council. After creating a magazine ad for an association, Katie was offered a job by a local company for the summer where she was able to gain more industry experience. This summer she will be interning at a company in Michigan where she will be involved in the printing of student planners and offset litho.

AARON STREBEL
Junior – University of Wisconsin-Stout
A full time student in the Packaging Engineering program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Aaron has developed a special interest in the tag and label industry. This past summer and winter break Aaron worked for one of TLMI’s member companies and will be returning to this company, this summer, working in their digital printing department. During the school year Aaron works part-time as a professor’s assistant and still maintains a 3.072 GPA.

Two-Year Colleges
This scholarship program is for students enrolled in a flexographic printing program at a two-year college or
in a technical program where degrees are granted. This grant is targeted to the student who is seeking
a career in the flexographic industry. Your school advisor must review your application and submit it to TLMI
Headquarters. Applications are NOT accepted directly from the student.
Application Deadline: January 1, 2010 – March 31, 2010
Who is eligible?
Any student enrolled full-time in a flexographic printing program at a two-year college or technical
program that grants degrees.
How much is awarded to each student?
$1,000 (per school year)
How many scholarships are awarded annually?
Four
What criteria does the student have to meet?
1. The applicant must be able to demonstrate interest in entering the tag and label industry.
2. The applicant must exhibit proficiency in overall academics and maintain a 3.00 or higher GPA.
3. Upon the applicant’s request, an official college transcript is required for the work completed.
4. The applicant must present his completed application to his school advisor for submission to TLMI.
Applications WILL NOT be accepted directly from a student. (Each learning facility can submit
two applications to the TLMI Scholarship Selection Committee.)
5. The applicant shall provide a Personal Statement, which should include: personal information
about themselves, financial circumstances, career and/or educational goals, employment
experience and reasons why they should be selected for this award.
6. The completed application and required documents must be received in the TLMI
office January 1, 2010 through March 31, 2010.

4. Have school advisor review and submit application to TLMI. (Only two applications are accepted
from each learning facility.)

Four-Year Colleges
(Full Time Students)
This scholarship program is for qualified third and fourth year full-time college students who are
pursuing an education leading to careers in the tag and label manufacturing industry.
Application Deadline:
January 1, 2010 but no later than March 31, 2010
(Please read this entire page before applying.)
Who is eligible?
A $5,000 a year scholarship may be awarded to a sophomore or junior attending a 4 year accredited
college or university on a full-time basis during their junior or senior year that can demonstrate
interest in entering the tag and label industry.
What other criteria does the student have to meet?
1.The applicant must be able to demonstrate interest in entering the tag and label industry.
2.Major course work should include those courses which are appropriate for the tag and label
manufacturing industry, Management, Sales/Marketing, Graphic Arts, Graphic Design, Production.
3.The applicant must exhibit proficiency in overall academics (a minimum of 3.00 GPA).
4.Upon the applicant’s request, an official college transcript is required for the work completed
from the freshman and sophomore years and is to be sent by the college directly to the TLMI
office address.
5.You must be enrolled as a full-time day student your junior and senior year.
6.The applicant shall possess excellent character including work ethic, honesty and integrity.
References from three persons, who are not family members, should provide this information.
7.The applicant must provide a one page, typed, personal statement including:
- Personal information about yourself, including any special circumstances, interests and activities.
- Your financial circumstances including financial aid you are receiving and your educational budget.
- Career and/or educational goals and how they might relate to the tag and label industry.
- Employment experience.
- Reasons why you should be selected for this award.
8.The completed application and required documents must be received in the TLMI office between January 1, 2010 through March 31, 2010.

The Scholarship Committee will review all applications,
Narrows down the applicants to 10 or less,
Set up personal interviews with each applicant, and
Makes a decision.
