Each year the TLMI Environmental Leadership Award recognizes both a converter and a supplier member each year that consistently demonstrated a commitment to progressive environmental practices across a range of areas. These include solid waste reduction, recycling, waste or energy recovery, the implementation of new ‘clean’ technology and/or processes, or the implementation of an education program.

Hub Labels, recipient of the association’s Converter Award for Environmental Leadership achieved TLMI L.I.F.E. Certification in 2012, making significant strides in reducing the company’s carbon footprint by forming and using an internal ‘Project L.I.F.E. Team’ that was instrumental in helping the company achieve and exceed its annual environmental goals.

Hub Labels’ notable achievements include:
  • A 39% reduction in waste generated (equaling 678,000 pounds) yielding a savings of more than $80,000
  • Implementing a 82% increase in the utilization of recycled materials
  • Comprehensively implementing Kaizen principles in the pressroom
  • Instituting a print flow program that reduced setup time and minimized waste
  • Achieving water usage reduction of more than 30%
  • Achieving vehicle gas reduction by 36% by switching to hybrid technology

3M, recipient of the Supplier Award for Environmental Leadership, displays an unwavering commitment to the environment in everything the company does. 3M’s vision statement, “We are committed to improving our business, our planet, and every life,” is something the company takes very seriously and its #improvinglives campaign has become a personal calling for 3M’s 90,000 employees across the globe.

3M has set forth an ambitious plan to 2025 that addresses the utilization of sustainable materials, energy efficiency, water management and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The plan includes the following goals to be met over the next seven years:
  • Improving energy efficiency by 30%
  • Increasing renewable energy to 25%
  • Achieving zero landfill status at 30% of the company’s manufacturing sites
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% below their 2002 baseline
  • Reducing water and waste consumption an additional 10%
